How to Replace the Wash Pump in an Electrolux Dishwasher

If your Electrolux dishwasher turns on but doesn't seem to do anything, the problem could lie with the pump. This fixture pumps used dishwater out of the appliance at the end of the cycle and through the sprayer arm that washes the dishes inside the cabinet. Replacing the wash pump in an Electrolux dishwasher requires you to gain access to the machinery underneath the cabinet, so prepare to spend some time on the floor when doing this job.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off the power for the Electrolux dishwasher at the main circuit breaker. Flip the switch to the "off" position or pull out the fuse that controls the circuit for the Electrolux.

      Remove the lower kick panel from the Electrolux. This is the panel located just underneath the dishwasher door, usually with screws on the sides and sometimes on the top to hold it in place. To remove the screws at the top of the panel, open the dishwasher door.

      Use a flashlight to locate the Electrolux pump housed underneath the central part of the cabinet. You can see the drain hose leading away from the pump as well as the wiring harness.

      Place a towel on the floor underneath the pump. Loosen the hose clamp securing the drain hose, using the screwdriver. Pull the drain hose off the pump. Wipe up any water that spills out.

      Remove the wiring harness from the pump. These are usually plugged into the side of the unit. Don't pull the harness out by the wires. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to grab the plastic socket and remove it.

      Loosen the bolts securing the pump to the cabinet, using a socket wrench. Pull the pump out of the bottom of the Electrolux cabinet.

      Align the new pump in the same manner as the old one. Place the new pump on the bottom of the cabinet. Insert and secure with the pump bolts.

      Reconnect the wiring harness and drain hose. Secure the hose with the clamp.

      Slip the kick panel back into place and secure with screws.

      Restore power to the dishwasher.
