My GE Nautilus Dishwasher Sticks in Wash Mode

The GE Nautilus dishwasher runs through several stages during a cleaning cycle to ensure the load is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. It can become stuck when the cycle is interrupted or the unit is overloaded. The dishwasher detects interruptions with its built-in sensor to halt a cycle until the door is securely closed, while an overloaded dishwasher disrupts the cleaning cycle as the dishwasher cannot properly distribute water necessary for proper cleaning. A persistent lockup during the wash mode requires professional repair to replace the dishwasher's electronic control board.
  1. Cycle Interruption

    • A cycle interruption occurs when the dishwasher's door is accidentally pulled open while the dishwasher is running a cycle, and requires securely closing the door in order to resume the current cycle. The "Start/Reset" button flashes when the cycle is interrupted, and can be pressed once the door is closed to resume the wash mode.

    Appliance Error

    • An error with the dishwasher results in the "Clean" button flashing and beeping, and is fixable by resetting the dishwasher. Flip the dishwasher's wall switch off to temporarily disable the washer. Flipping the wall switch back on after 10 seconds resets the dishwasher's controls, and corrects errors with the appliance's controls.

    Improper Load

    • An improper cleaning selection for a light or normal load of dishes results in longer cleaning times, as the dishwasher uses more water, energy and time. Reserve "Pots & Pans/Heavy Wash" for heavier loads, as the dishwasher's wash mode takes longer than the "Light Wash" or "Normal Wash" modes.

    Power Failure

    • An issue with your home's main power supply affects the dishwasher, as the dishwasher cannot proceed following a power outage until it is reset. Too many appliances connected to one electric outlet causes an overload, and typically results in a tripped circuit breaker or blow fuse.
