GE Profile Dishwasher PDW8000 Sump Step-by-Step

Although the GE Profile Dishwasher PDW8000 is no longer being manufactured, it can still be found in some kitchens. This appliance uses a sump to pump dishwater out of the machine in between the wash cycles. If you need to remove your sump for replacement or repair, the step-by-step instructions are fairly simple, even for someone unfamiliar with dishwasher repair.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the electricity for the GE Profile dishwasher. Because most dishwashers will be hardwired into the electrical circuit -- rather than plugged in -- you will likely have to cut the power supply at the main circuit breaker. Place a piece of tape over the switch so it isn't turned on while you are working.

    • 2

Turn off the water supply for the dishwasher at the supply valve. This is usually positioned beneath the kitchen sink. Rotate the knob all the way to the right to cut the water.

    • 3

Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on the sides of the kick panel. Pull the kick panel off of the GE Profile.

    • 4

Unscrew the coupling holding the water supply line in place on the water inlet elbow. Loosen the hose clamp holding the hose in place on the outside of the pump, which is the circular housing located in the center underside of the cabinet. Pull the hose out of place.

    • 5

Pull the wiring harness out of the side of the sump pump. When pulling, grasp the harness by the plastic plug and not the wires.

    • 6

Open the dishwasher door. Insert the edge of a screwdriver beneath the sprayer arm cap to pry it out of place. Remove the sprayer arm bolt with a socket wrench. Pull the sprayer arm up and off of the sprayer hub.

    • 7

Loosen the bolts in the bottom inside of the dishwasher cabinet to release the sump pump and housing. Pull the sump out of place from beneath the cabinet.
