How to Keep the Sump Pump Gaskets on an LDS5811 From Moving During Reinstallation

During reinstallation of a sump pump on an LG DS5811 dishwasher, the rubber gaskets that help keep the pump sealed can sometimes slip. When this happens, the seal can block the bolt holes and keep the sump from sealing properly. One way to keep the seals in position is by applying a few drops of silicone sealant to keep them in place during the sump assembly process. The silicone sealant not only helps to keep the seals in place, but also aids in creating a watertight seal.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power for the LG dishwasher at the main circuit breaker. Look underneath the nearest sink or water connection for the water supply valve, which is usually about two inches in size, circular or oval in shape, and connected to the cold water supply outlet in the wall. Rotate the knob all the way to the right to cut the water supply.

    • 2

Open the LG dishwasher. Remove the lower dishwasher rack. While the door is open, look for any screws holding the kick panel in place between the door and the cabinet body. Remove these with a screwdriver. Close the door.

    • 3

Remove any screws on the sides of the lower kick panel. Pull the kick panel out of place beneath the door and set aside.

    • 4

Shine a flashlight underneath the LG dishwasher cabinet and look for the drain hose connected to the pump in the center underside of the cabinet. Loosen the hose clamp with a screwdriver and pull this off the outlet.

    • 5

Grasp the wire harness plug connect to the side of the pump with a pair of needle-nose pliers and pull out of the pump.

    • 6

Open the dishwasher cabinet. Use a flat bladed screwdriver to pry the protective cap off the center of the washer spinner arm. Loosen the bolt inside with a socket wrench. Pull off the washer arm.

    • 7

Loosen the bolts holding the pump body in place inside the body of the LG cabinet. Lift the pump up and out of the cabinet body.

    • 8

Remove the old sump gasket by pulling it off the pump body.

    • 9

Insert a tube of waterproof silicone caulk into a caulk gun. Trim off the end at the 1/4 inch marking with a utility knife. Apply a few drops of caulk to the top of the new sump pump seal.

    • 10

Slip the seal into place around the sump body. Hold for a few seconds until the silicone caulk dries.

    • 11

Insert the sump pump into the LG dishwasher cabinet. Secure with the pump bolts.

    • 12

Reconnect the drain hose and secure with the hose clamp. Plug the wiring harness back into the side of the pump.

    • 13

Replace the kick panel, securing with the screws and the top as needed.

    • 14

Slip the spray arm back into place and secure with the spray arm bolt. Press the spray arm cap back into the top of the sprayer shaft. Replace the lower dishwasher rack.

    • 15

Turn the water supply for the LG dishwasher back on. Restore the power.
