Turn off the power for the dishwasher at the main circuit breaker.
Turn off the water supply for the dishwasher. This can usually be found beneath the nearest sink at the supply valve. The valve that controls the dishwasher will be connected to two supply hoses: one running to the faucet above and one to the dishwasher.
Open the dishwasher door. Remove the lower dish rack inside by pulling it straight out.
Remove the screw from the dishwasher arm with a screwdriver or socket wrench, as needed. Pull the arm assembly straight up and off the spindle.
Pull the feed tube leading out to the upper rack, on Whirlpool washers so equipped. The feed tube is the plastic conduit that leads from the spindle assembly to the upper rack. Remove the tube by pulling it straight back.
Loosen the kick panel located underneath the dishwasher door by loosening the screws on either side.
Place a towel on the ground underneath the pump motor drain hose. Loosen the coupling holding the hose in place with a screwdriver. Pull the pump hose off the pump by pulling it straight back.
Disconnect the pump from the electrical harness by pulling the plug out of the rear of the motor assembly. Do the same for the wires connected to the drain pump.
Loosen the bolts holding the motor assembly in place on the underside of the cabinet.
Push the pump and motor assembly straight up and remove it through the inside of the dishwasher cabinet.
Turn the pump and motor assembly over to access the pump. Use a socket wrench to loosen the bolts holding the motor in place to the drain assembly. Remove the pump. Replace with a new one.
Insert the pump and motor assembly back through the bottom of the dishwasher cabinet. Secure from beneath with the bolts. Reconnect the wire harnesses to the pump and motor. Replace the drain hose and secure with the clamp.
Replace the kick panel and secure.
Replace the lower dishwasher rack. Restore water and electricity to the appliance.
