Frigidaire Dishwasher Will Not Pump out Water

Looking inside a Frigidaire dishwasher and finding a tub full of water may be a little surprising to most users. But the reason why the water did not pump out of the appliance might actually be pretty simple and easy to resolve for most homeowners. A little bit of investigation and effort should get the water draining back out fairly quickly.
  1. Cycle Completion

    • A primary reason that water may be left in the dishwasher is if the cycle was interrupted and was not restarted properly. Close the dishwasher door, and press “Start/Cancel” once to see if the cycle will resume automatically. If it does not, press “Drain” and allow the drain cycle to remove the remaining water, then select a new wash cycle and start it again. When the dishwasher needs to be stopped during a cycle, simply open the door slowly and then close it when ready to continue the cycle and press “Start/Cancel” once. Pressing it more than once will cancel the current cycle and will not drain out the water.

    Air Gap

    • If the Frigidaire dishwasher typically operates pretty well with little difficulty, start in other areas of the kitchen first to help find the problem source. If there is an air gap on the kitchen sink or counter, lift off the lid and disconnect the hoses. These hoses can be cleared out with a toothpick or water and then reconnected. The air gap can prevent proper dishwasher draining if it is clogged.

    Food Waste Disposer

    • Most kitchens now have a food waste disposer, also called a garbage disposal, installed in the kitchen sink, which grinds up food debris, residue and particles before flushing them down the drain. When the drain is backed up with debris and the dishwasher won’t drain as well, running the garbage disposal will often help resolve the situation. Run water in the sink before starting the disposal, and ensure that the knockout plug from inside the inlet under the sink has been removed. The knockout plug is a small plastic device located where the disposal and dishwasher connect but should be taken out to allow water to flow between the two.

    Drain Hose

    • Waste water from the dishwasher is meant to drain out of the dishwasher through the drain hose and out of the system. However, if there is a blockage in the drain hose, the water is also blocked and has nowhere to go. Remove power to the dishwasher first; disconnect the drain hose from the dishwasher, and clean it out to remove potential obstructions before firmly reconnecting.
