My Kenmore Ultrawash QuietGuard Is Not Cleaning

With a name like “Ultra Wash,” the Kenmore Ultra Wash QuietGuard dishwasher might be expected to clean dishes each and every time the dishwasher is used. But there are actually a variety of reasons why the dishwasher may not get items clean, from issues with the water supply to problems with the detergent dispenser.
  1. Water Temperature

    • The water that enters the Kenmore dishwasher must reach a base temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit or more to clean dishes effectively. If the water temperature is too low, the detergent may not dissolve completely, leaving food soil on the dishes. Check the home water heater, and turn the heater up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit if the current temperature is too low. If the temperature is correct, run the hot water at the sink near the dishwasher first before starting the dishwasher to help increase the incoming water temperature.

    Water Pressure

    • Sufficient water pressure is necessary for the water to fill the dishwasher and use enough force to clean the dishes. The home water supply should have a pressure of 20 to 120 psi, which can be determined through the use of a water pressure gauge. If the water pressure is below 20 psi, adding a booster pump to the household water supply can help increase pressure appropriately.

    Spray Arms

    • Water enters the dishwasher through the spray arms, causing them to spin and rinse the dishes. However, if something is obstructing the pump or spray arms, the dishwasher cannot clean items. Look for debris covering or blocking the pump or the spray arm rotation and clean as needed. You can take a paper clip or a toothpick and carefully clean out any spray jets that look obstructed.

    Detergent

    • One basic reason why the Kenmore dishwasher may not be cleaning appropriately is if the detergent dispenser is blocked and therefore cannot open and dispense the soap needed to wash the items inside the tub. The most likely cause of this problem is the positioning of dishes inside the dishwasher. Ensure items are not set in the racks where they might block the dispenser. In addition, use the correct amount of detergent and ensure the detergent is fresh and free of clumps.
