One of the main reasons that a KitchenAid dishwasher may be noisy or vibrating is the method with which items were loaded. If items are extending past the sides or bottom of the racks, these pieces may rattle during the wash cycle or even create a thumping, vibrating motion. Load dishes so that larger, heavier items are set face down in the bottom rack and more delicate items are secured in the top rack. Don’t nest pieces together, and always do a visual check to ensure nothing is falling or protruding out of the racks before starting the wash cycle.
Another factor that may cause the KitchenAid dishwasher to vibrate is the way the unit was installed. If the dishwasher was installed unevenly or without properly measuring the surrounding cabinets, the washing machine may vibrate during use and make noise as the machine comes in contact with nearby surfaces. In addition, if the floor under the dishwasher is not sufficient to support the weight of the appliance, the ground may bend and cause vibration when in operation. If there is any doubt as to the installation or positioning of the dishwasher, contact KitchenAid or another qualified repair professional for assistance.
Several of the dishwasher components may eventually fail or break that will create a lot of vibration. For instance, if the water inlet valve wears out, the valve turns on and off abruptly, which makes the water lines rattle and vibrate loudly. The water valve will need to be replaced in this instance.
As with the water inlet valve, the dishwasher motor may eventually wear out and cause the bearings to make noise during use. A common indicator that this is the problem is vibration and noise along with water leaking onto the floor when the dishwasher is in use. If this occurs, replacement of the motor or motor shaft will be needed.
