Unplug the dishwasher. Turn off the water supply valve. Place a tub or bucket under the point where the water supply tube connects to the inlet fitting.
Unscrew the nut to disconnect the water supply tube from the inlet fitting. Unhook the electrical wires from the electrical box at the back of the dishwasher.
Loosen and remove the nuts that hold the water intake in place.
Unclamp the black rubber tubing from the back of the water intake valve, using needle-nose pliers. The tubing takes water from the valve to the dishwasher.
Back out the screws in the water intake valve compression fitting. Take apart the components of the water intake, including the compression fitting, the screen and the valve.
Soak the parts in a solution of equal parts vinegar and warm water for several minutes. Wash the parts in hot, soapy water and rinse. Make sure the screen is fully cleaned.
Loosen any buildup in the black rubber tubing by submerging the end in the vinegar solution for several minutes and scrubbing the inside with a long, thin pipe cleaner.
Clean the end of the water supply tube connections and the the inlet fitting, using a pipe cleaner.
Reassemble the dishwasher and run a cycle to test the cleaned intake.
