How to Replace a Tub Gasket for a GE Dishwasher PDW9280N20SS

If you notice water leaking from around the door of your General Electric PDW9280N20SS dishwasher, it may be time to replace the tub gasket. The tub gasket wraps around the sides and top of the dishwasher, forming a water-tight seal that prevents water from escaping from the washtub during a wash cycle. The gasket is made of heavy rubber, and will wear down after regular use. The gasket is held in place by the pressure of the gasket channel, and requires no tools to replace.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Open the dishwasher door, then remove the gasket by grasping one end and pulling it away from the channel. If the gasket is difficult to remove, use a flat-head screwdriver to pry it away from the tub.

    • 2

Place the new gasket in a bucket of hot water and allow it to soak for several minutes. Soaking the gasket softens the rubber, making it easier to mold to the gasket channel.

    • 3

Align the dot on the gasket with the door latch at the top of the door, then press the center of the gasket into the gasket channel.

    • 4

Press the entire gasket into the channel until it is full inserted all the way around.

    • 5

Close the dishwasher door and allow it to remain closed for several hours. If possible, leave the dishwasher door latched overnight to allow the gasket to mold to the gasket channel.
