How to Change Face Plates on Maytag Dishwashers

Maytag dishwashers, now manufactured by Whirlpool, include models with interchangeable face plates to alter the look of the appliance. This lets you color-coordinate the Maytag with other appliances in your kitchen. The face plate on the dishwasher fits below the front edge of the control panel, securely attached to the bottom with a pair of screws. Removing and changing the face plate takes only a few minutes using a screwdriver.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the electricity to your Maytag dishwasher at the circuit breaker whenever you work on the appliance. Even though you may not come into contact with electrical components while changing the face plate, shutting off the power is a standard safety procedure.

    • 2

Remove the screws on the bottom left and right sides of the face plate, using the screwdriver.

    • 3

Slide the face plate down, toward the floor, until the top edge of the plate is below the control panel.

    • 4

Flex the left edge of the plate outward so the lip along the left edge pulls off the main frame of the door. Pull the plate to the right and off the door frame to remove the part.

    • 5

Hook the lip on the left edge of the new face plate onto the left edge of the main door frame. Flex the right side of the new plate slightly to pop it onto the right edge of the door frame.

    • 6

Slide the plate up until the top edge fits under the control panel. Align the screw holes on the left and right edges of the new plate with the holes in the sides of the door frame.

    • 7

Secure the new face plate in position with the removed screws, tightening them into the holes in the lower left and right edges of the door.
