How to Remove a Drain Solenoid on a GE Potscrubber Dishwasher

If you own a GE Potscrubber dishwasher and you are experiencing problems with the water draining, then you may have an issue with the drain valve solenoid. The drain valve, located near the motor, includes a coil-shaped electric solenoid that opens the valve to divert water down the drain. You can remove the solenoid to test it, clean it or replace it at any time after you access the internal area of the dishwasher unit.

Instructions

    • 1

Move your GE dishwasher away from the wall, then unplug the unit from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the two screws on the lower kickplate, which is the access panel on the bottom front of the unit.

    • 3

Locate the drain valve in the center on the unit near the motor. A small hose connects the motor to the valve.

    • 4

Disconnect the two wires attached to the solenoid, which is a coil within the drain valve.

    • 5

Detach the screw that connects the solenoid to the drain valve. Pull the solenoid gently out of the dishwasher.

    • 6

Place the old or new solenoid back into the drain valve, then reinsert the screw to the solenoid.

    • 7

Reconnect the two wires to the solenoid, then place the lower kickplate back on the dishwasher.

    • 8

Secure the kickplate with the two screws. Reconnect the power supply.
