How to Change a GE Dishwasher Propeller

A GE dishwasher has propellers, otherwise known as wash arms, that provide a high-powered spray to clean dishes. Over time the propeller arms can become clogged with dirt and mineral deposits. Sometimes the propellers can be cleaned; however, they may be so corroded that replacement is the only option. Purchase new propeller arms for your GE dishwasher from an authorized GE parts dealer locally or online, and install them with a minimum amount of time and effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Discontinue power by turning off the circuit breaker associated with the dishwasher.

    • 2

Open the dishwasher door, and pull out the racks and set them aside. If your GE dishwasher has a propeller arm attached to the upper rack, flip it over so you can access the arm.

    • 3

Remove the nut that secures the propeller arm to the bottom of the dishwasher and/or the top rack. Use a socket wrench with the correct size socket installed to turn the nut counterclockwise. Be careful not to lose the washer that sits underneath the nut.

    • 4

Grasp the propeller arm with both hands and pull it straight up and off of its mount.

    • 5

Install the new propeller by setting it on its mount in the same position the old one occupied. Install the washer and the nut by hand. Tighten the nut using the socket wrench. Replace the racks and restore the power.
