How to Clean the Filter in a Kitchen Aid Dishwasher

The filter in the interior bottom of a KitchenAid dishwasher stops food particles from flowing with the dirty dish water into the drain pipe, where a clog could occur. Periodic filter cleaning is part of the regular maintenance for a KitchenAid dishwasher. Even if the drain does not clog completely, food stuck on the filter may cause water to back up inside the appliance and splash on your dishes. Cleaning the filter takes less than 10 minutes. No tools are required.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the latch on the KitchenAid door to open the appliance, which stops automatically if a cycle is in progress.

    • 2

Lower the door and slide the bottom rack out of the KitchenAid to locate the coarse filter screen inside the bottom in the front right corner.

    • 3

Grab the tab sticking upward on the coarse screen and twist to the left to release it from the appliance.

    • 4

Lift the filter cup out of the space below the coarse screen and remove it from the appliance.

    • 5

Wash the coarse screen and filter in the sink with running water. Use an old toothbrush to scrub away stubborn particles stuck to the parts.

    • 6

Push the clean filter cup down into the Kitchenaid and press the coarse filter screen on top of it. Twist the screen to the right while pressing downward to snap it in place.

    • 7

Raise the door and press against the dishwasher cabinet to latch the door in the closed position.
