Dishwasher Tube Clogged up

Symptoms

• Most dishwashers have a shallow puddle of clean water at the base of the tub once a cycle has completed, which is nothing to worry about as it is a natural part of the filling and draining process. A deep puddle of water of an inch or more inside a dishwasher, however, can be indicative of a problem with the appliance’s water pump or a blockage in one of the hoses attached to the dishwasher.

Air Gap and Drain Tube Maintenance

• A dishwasher air gap is usually situated at the flood rim of the sink and is designed to prevent dirty water from contaminating your household water supply. Dirty water emanating from this point usually indicates that the dishwasher drain line is clogged or has a dent in it, preventing the free flow of water. The cover of the air gap should be removed and the interior cleaned out prior to checking the drain tube for any blockages. Use a stiff wire to clear the tube and air gap of any dirt or soapy residue.

Spray Arm

• Unplug the dishwasher, and allow it to cool down once you have tried to clear the blockage with a stiff wire. The dishwasher strainer is usually situated beneath the spray arm on the bottom shelf of a dishwasher. These can normally be released by lifting up the spray arm and unclipping it from its casing. Clean out the interior of the strainer before running a fresh cycle, which will help you determine whether the line is still clogged as blockages in the strainer can also cause excess buildup of water.

Drain Hose and Valve

• Remove the dishwasher from under the counter if the cycle still produces excessive water. The full length of the drain hose can be thoroughly flushed out by disconnecting the hose at both ends and running a faucet through its length. Purchase a replacement drain hose if the blockage can’t be cleared without cutting through the tubing. The drain valve may need to be replaced if the dishwasher continues to produce excess or dirty water once the hose has been unblocked or replaced.
