How to Troubleshoot a Samsung DMR78AHS Dishwasher

The Samsung DMR78AHS was specifically designed to accommodate large loads while maintaining energy efficiency. The ability to resolve a dishwasher problem quickly can replace a feeling of frustration with a feeling of relief. Determining what the unit is doing, or is not doing, is the first step in identifying the source of the trouble. Checking the likely possible causes of that problem will often quickly lead to the source of the trouble. Often, the trouble is caused by user error rather than by a mechanical problem.

Instructions

  1. Dishwasher Will Not Turn On

    • 1

Press the “On” button on the control panel. Ensure you have plugged the power cord into a working outlet if the control panel does not illuminate after pressing the “On” button.

    • 2

Press the “Child Lock” button on the control panel if the “Child Lock” icon is displayed to turn the lock off.

    • 3

Push the racks all of the way into the dishwasher to prevent them from blocking the door.

    • 4

Press the desired cycle button on the control panel. The cycle is activated when its button illuminates.

    • 5

Push the door firmly into the dishwasher and latch the door, then allow a few seconds to pass for the dishwasher to start.

    • 6

Ensure that the water supply valve that directs water to the dishwasher is turned on by rotating the valve handle in a counterclockwise direction if the dishwasher still fails to start. The supply valve is most likely located underneath the kitchen sink.

Items are Still Soiled with Food after Cycle Completes

    • 7

Select an appropriate cycle. The “Normal” cycle is used for regular dinner dishes. Select the “Heavy” cycle to clean oiled or heavily soiled pots, pans and dishes. Select the “Delicate” cycle for normally soiled but fragile items. Select the “Rinse” option for dishes and glassware that have already been cleaned. The dishwasher will not dispense detergent or dry the dishes when this cycle is selected. Use the “Quick” cycle to clean only lightly soiled items. Select the “Smart Auto” cycle to allow the dishwasher to detect the amount of soil and select the appropriate cycle automatically.

    • 8

Use automatic dishwasher detergent with every wash cycle.

    • 9

Reposition any dishes that could block the water nozzles within the bottom of the dishwasher or the detergent dispenser against the interior of the door. Remember that the water nozzles rotate when the dishwasher is running.

    Dishwasher is Unusually Noisy

    • 10

Position the dishes far enough from each other to prevent them from coming into contact during the wash cycle.

    • 11

Open the dishwasher’s door and check the levelness of the unit with a level. Check the levelness horizontally and vertically by positioning the level against the door opening within the dishwasher. Adjust the levelness by turning the leveling legs located at each corner of the dishwasher with a wrench. Turning a leveling leg in a clockwise direction lowers that corner, while turning the leg in a counterclockwise direction raises that corner.

    • 12

Allow a few minutes to pass after starting the dishwasher, as the drain pump is used during the initial stages of the wash cycles. The drain pump does produce an audible noise when in use.
