How to Clean Out the Filter System in a Sears Dishwasher

Sears dishwashers are equipped with a two-stage filter system in the interior bottom of the appliance. The drain grate catches large food particles to prevent clogs in the appliance and rubber drain hose. The fine particle filter underneath captures smaller debris and grease. Sears recommends cleaning out both filters at least once a month. The job takes only a few minutes to do.

Instructions

    • 1

Press up on the recessed latch in the dishwasher door at the top to open the door then lower it.

    • 2

Slide out the bottom rack on its wheels.

    • 3

Twist the drain grate 1/4-turn counterclockwise to unlock it from the bottom of the appliance. The grate has a series of strainer holes in circular rows. Lift the part straight up to prevent spilling any old food caught in the grate.

Wash the two filter parts in the sink under hot water, using a nylon scrub brush to remove any stuck-on particles.

    • 6

Reinstall the filter cylinder and place the grate on top, twisting the upper part 1/4-turn clockwise to lock it in place.

    • 7

Close the appliance door and press the latch.
