How to Drain an LG Dishwasher

While most LG dishwashers will automatically drain water out of the tub following each wash cycle, there are a few problems that may cause water to remain in the tub. Such issues include a clogged drain hose, a blocked kitchen sink or air gap, or oversudsing created by using too much dishwasher detergent or the wrong kind of detergent. The drain hose can be cleaned out, the kitchen garbage disposer can be run to clear the sink drain, the air gap can be cleaned out and the proper amount and type of dishwasher detergent can be used, but water may remain in the tub. Forcing the dishwasher to drain is fairly simple and will help return the dishwasher to regular function.

Instructions

    • 1

Close the LG dishwasher door firmly until the door latches shut.

    • 2

Press "Rinse Only" to select a rinse cycle if the previous cycle completed or choose a new wash cycle if the previous cycle was interrupted, and then push "Start."

    • 3

Wait for the rinse or wash cycle and the following drain cycle to complete and the cycle to end.

    • 4

Open the dishwasher door and verify the water has emptied from the tub. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 as needed until the water drains from the tub.
