How to Remove the Upper Rack of a Kenmore Dishwasher

Kenmore dishwashers have an upper and a lower rack, allowing you to make the most of the limited space inside of your dishwasher. Occasionally, it may be necessary to remove the racks to replace the rollers or to repair the spray arm contained below each rack. The lower rack lifts right out of the dishwasher, but the upper rack is slightly more difficult to remove. The rack wheels are secured in rack slides, which are equipped with rack-stops on the end. To remove the rack, you must first remove the rack stops.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the upper rack out of the dishwasher as far as it will extend.

    • 2

Use a flat-head screwdriver to depress the tab on the inside of the top of the rack stop. With the tab depressed, lift the rack stop up and off the slider. Repeat for the other rack stop.

    • 3

Pull the upper dish rack straight out of the dishwasher. Use both hands to avoid accidentally dropping the dish rack and causing damage to the rack or spray arm.
