Troubleshooting a GE Dishwasher That Won't Drain

Locate the GE dishwasher drain hose under the sink and disconnect it from the dishwasher using a screwdriver to unscrew the hose clamps. Clear the hose of any debris and straighten it when reconnecting it to the dishwasher to prevent kinks. Make sure the drain hose is looped at least 18 inches above the ground if no air gap is installed on the kitchen sink for proper drain flow.

Examine the sump area in the back of the dishwasher bottom and clean away any wet paper or debris that might be covering the sump.

Run the garbage disposer in the kitchen sink to clear up the drain system. Ensure that the dishwasher drain plug on the garbage disposal has been removed to allow the dishwasher to drain freely.

Check that the sink drain is not obstructed. Remove any clogs using a plunger as needed.

Remove the cap on the air gap, if an air gap is present, and clean out any material inside. Reconnect the cap to the air gap.

Run the dishwasher using automatic dishwasher detergent in recommended amounts, and set the dishwasher for an additional rinse and drain cycle if excess suds are present.
