How to Get the Bottom Plate Off of a Dishwasher

Several dishwasher components are generally located behind the front bottom kick plate, such as the water inlet valve, the motor relay and the float switch, as well as the drain hose in some models. Removing the bottom kick plate is therefore sometimes necessary to access the dishwasher and clean, maintain or repair certain parts. Getting the bottom plate off the dishwasher usually takes a few steps and a screwdriver.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the screws on each side of the dishwasher toe plate, if applicable. They may be located on the front or the side of the plate. Set the screws aside.

    • 2

Grab each side of the bottom plate with your hands and lift it up and off the dishwasher.

    • 3

Look to see if the dishwasher has a retaining strip over the top edge of the kick plate. If the kick plate has a retaining edge strip, peel the edge toward you and set it aside. Lift the outside edges of the panel with one hand to push down slightly on the panel then pull it out.

    • 4

Align the bottom plate with the bottom edge of the dishwasher to replace the plate. The plate should sit against the floor. Push the plate down and in to secure it.

    • 5

Tighten the screws on each side of the bottom plate. Replace the retaining strip, if applicable.
