How to Take Off an Inlet Valve on a Dishwasher

The water inlet valve on your dishwasher serves an important purpose, as it regulates the flow of water into the washtub during the wash cycle. The inlet valve is connected to the water supply line below your sink, and is located on the bottom of your dishwasher, on the left side, behind the bottom kick-plate. If the inlet valve sticks open or shut, too much or too little water may enter the dishwasher, causing the dishwasher's flood switch to trip, or the cycle to run without an adequate water supply. To remedy a malfunctioning inlet valve, you must remove the valve from the dishwasher so that a new one can be installed.

    • 1

Turn off the dishwasher's power in your home's breaker panel.

Remove the water supply line from the water inlet valve by loosening the compression nut on the end of the supply line with an adjustable wrench.

    • 6

Remove the brass elbow from the bottom of the water inlet valve using an adjustable wrench.

    • 7

Remove the mounting screws from the front of the water inlet valve, and then remove the water inlet valve from the dishwasher frame.

    • 8

Pull the solenoid wire connector or connectors off the water inlet valve, and then remove the valve.
