How to Remove a Kitchen Aid Dishwasher's Upper Rack

KitchenAid dishwashers include a top rack feature that allows you to place smaller items such as glasses, large utensils and mugs onto the top rack when running a cleaning cycle. If you want to place larger cooking items, such as pots, pans, cookie sheets or roasters into the bottom rack of your dishwasher, remove the top rack completely. The top rack is held into the appliance on a track and it is connected to plastic track stops that can be opened or closed at any time.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the dishwasher door, and then pull the top rack all the way toward you until it stops in place.

    • 2

Lift the top off the track stops on each side of the tracks that the rack's wheels are connected to.

    • 3

Slide the front wheels up and out of the tracks, and then pull the rack forward even more.

    • 4

Pull the back end of the rack off the tracks and then entirely remove the rack from the dishwasher.

    • 5

Close the track stops and slide the rack tracks back into the dishwasher. Clean the top rack, if necessary, in warm water and soap.

    • 6

Replace the rack by pulling the rack tracks out and opening the track stops. Place the back wheels of the top rack in first and lock them into the track stops.

    • 7

Slide in the rest of the rack and make sure the front wheels of the rack connect back into the track stops. Close the track stops and close your dishwasher door.
