Troubleshooting a KitchenAid Dishwasher Heating Water

When a KitchenAid dishwasher is not heating water correctly, a variety of problems may ensue, such as dishes that do not get clean, residue on the dishes or the dishwasher detergent left in the dispenser, stains on the dishwasher tub and a spotted, filmy appearance on many dishes and glasses. Troubleshooting this issue may help identify less serious problems with the dishwasher or user operation that can be resolved easily, although there are also some potential serious repair problems that might be to blame.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the household water heater to verify the water temperature that enters the dishwasher. Water temperatures of 120 degrees Fahrenheit or more is best.

    • 2

Turn on the hot water at the kitchen sink for 30 seconds before starting the KitchenAid dishwasher cycle, as this will raise the temperature of the water that enters the dishwasher.

    • 3

Select wash cycles that use warm or hot water. Do not use “Light/China” or “Rinse Only” cycles as these options use cooler water and may not produce the desired cleanliness.
