Troubleshooting a Maytag Jetclean Dishwasher Quiet Plus

The Maytag Jetclean dishwasher with Quiet Plus offers automatic water temperature sensors, soil sensors and high-pressure spray jets to help remove debris from dishes. The dishwasher also has a sanitizing cycle, stain-resistant tub and a quiet sound motor. So many features might lead some owners to feel the dishwasher should work well every time, but every appliance is likely to run into problems at some point, including the Maytag Jetclean dishwasher.

Instructions

    • 1

Replace or reset the home fuse or circuit breaker if nothing on the dishwasher is functioning. Try closing the door firmly, and push a cycle button, followed by “Start/Resume.” Push “Start/Resume” again if the “Start/Resume” light is blinking but the cycle is not in progress.

    • 2

Increase the household water temperature setting at the hot water heater if the current setting is less than 120 degrees Fahrenheit, and the cycle is running a long time or residue remains on dishes. Run the hot water at the sink for 30 seconds before starting the dishwasher.

    • 3

Tap the overfill protection float in the bottom of the dishwasher firmly until the float moves if the dishwasher is not filling with water. Find the water valve — usually located behind the dishwasher or under the sink — and turn the valve counterclockwise to open it completely. Start a new rinse and drain cycle if there are suds left in the dishwasher tub, which may prevent proper functioning.

    • 4

Restart the dishwasher if it's interrupted during a wash cycle, especially if water is left in the tub. Touch “Start/Resume” and close the dishwasher door within three seconds to restart the cycle. Check for other potential drain problems if the cycle wasn’t interrupted, such as a clogged kitchen drain. Run the garbage disposal and clean out the dishwasher drain hose if the drain problem continues. Straighten out the drain hose if there are kinks in the hose.

    • 5

Move items around in the dishwasher if a thumping sound is heard during use so items cannot block the spray arms or bump into the dishwasher walls during the wash cycle.

    • 6

Wipe out the detergent dispenser with a clean, dry cloth in between washes if detergent is clumping or detergent residue is found on the bottom of the dishwasher tub. Fill it with fresh detergent, and store the detergent in a cool, dry area to help reduce lumping. Load the dishwasher racks so that large or bulky items cannot block the detergent dispenser, and run hot water at the kitchen sink prior to the wash cycle to help bring up the water temperature in the dishwasher.

    • 7

Pour 2 cups of white vinegar into a bowl and set the bowl in the bottom rack of the dishwasher if the tub smells bad. Run a “Normal” cycle with “Heated Dry,” and repeat as needed until the odor is gone. Run the dishwasher daily with a “Rinse” cycle to help prevent odors from developing.

    • 8

Use the “Hi Temp” wash cycle with “Sani Rinse” cycle modifier if dishware is cloudy or spotted after washing. Run a vinegar cycle with 2 cups of vinegar in a bowl without detergent to help remove any additional spotting.

    • 9

Repeat the “Sanitize” wash cycle if the “Sanitize” button light is blinking, and do not stop the cycle, which takes longer than some other wash cycles. Set the household water heater to at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 10

Refill the rinse aid dispenser as needed if the Maytag dishwasher is not drying. Use the “High Temp” wash cycle or “Heated Dry” cycle modifier for better drying.
