How to Disconnect a GE Water Filter

GE refrigerators equipped with a water dispenser and ice maker use a filter cartridge in the refrigerator to remove impurities. The system is also designed with a removable plug that can be used to bypass a disconnected filter. This is useful for troubleshooting the GE appliance or as a temporary stop-gap if you need to buy a new filter and don't have a replacement on hand. Disconnecting the filter and installing the plug takes less than 10 minutes. No tools are needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the refrigerator side of the GE appliance to reach the filter compartment in the top of the right-hand back corner.

    • 2

Press the end of the tube-shaped compartment to pop it open. Place folded paper towels underneath.
