How to Connect a Flexible Water Supply Line to the Elbow Piece of a Whirlpool Dishwasher

Older models of Whirlpool dishwashers have a water inlet valve, which regulates the flow of water into the dishwasher. This type of water inlet valve requires a brass elbow to be installed on the bottom of the valve, to which the water supply line connects, unlike newer inlet valves that rely on a rubber washer to form the seal. Once the water supply line is connected, the dishwasher is almost ready for use.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the screws that secure the bottom panel of the dishwasher to the appliance with a screwdriver. Remove the bottom panel.

    • 2

Locate the water inlet valve. On Whirlpool models, the water inlet valve is located on the left side of the lower compartment of the dishwasher.

    • 3

Thread the water supply line connector onto the brass elbow then hand-tighten the connector. Use an adjustable wrench to further tighten the water supply line.

    • 4

Turn on the water supply valve and inspect the connection for leaks.

    • 5

Replace the lower access panel and secure it into position with the screws that were removed.
