Troubleshooting a KitchenAid KUDC25CH

The KitchenAid KUDC25CH is an under-counter dishwasher that is no longer in active production. The dishwasher features a four-way sweeping spray arm, adjustable tines and racks and cycles such as anti-bacterial, soak and scrub, as well as rinse only. Common problems with dishwashers such as this model include food soil left on dishes, long cycle times and detergent residue in the dispenser. Even though KitchenAid no longer manufactures this dishwasher, solving problems with the appliance is often possible through some troubleshooting.

Instructions

    • 1

Close the KitchenAid dishwasher door firmly if the dishwasher is not running. Let the dishwasher cool if the dishwasher stopped due to a motor overload as the appliance will restart automatically. Replace or reset the fuse or circuit breaker if power to the entire dishwasher has been lost.

    • 2

Heat water by running hot water at the kitchen sink for 30 seconds before starting the dishwasher if the cycles seem to run for a long time or there is soil left after cleaning. Add fresh detergent to the dispenser and wipe down the spray arms to remove any obstructing residue. Discontinue the use of other water-based appliances at the same time as the dishwasher if water pressure lowers when other appliances are also in use.

    • 3

Turn the water valve on fully if the dishwasher does not fill with water and push down on the overfill protection float on the dishwasher bottom to release the float if stuck in place.

    • 4

Change the detergent if there is residue left in the dispenser to ensure the freshness of the detergent and use only the recommended amount. Do not stop the dishwasher cycle unless necessary and restart the cycle if stopped to allow the detergent to finish dispensing.

    • 5

Add rinse aid detergent if the dispenser is low and glasses or dishes are spotted or etched. Remove metal items and run a vinegar rinse or use 1 to 3 tablespoons of citric acid crystals instead of detergent to help clean dishes and glasses.

    • 6

Start a “Rinse Only” cycle if dishes or the tub smell bad and the dishwasher has not run recently. Run a vinegar rinse by putting a bowl of vinegar in the bottom rack and running a normal cycle without any detergent to help remove odors after regular use.

    • 7

Clean dishes with a mild abrasive household cleaner if black or gray marks show up on them. Avoid washing aluminum items next to other dishes, as the aluminum can break down and discolor other items with the black or gray spots.

    • 8

Refill the rinse aid dispenser and use a hot dry cycle if dishes are wet or damp after the full wash and dry process.
