Troubleshooting a Leaking Kenmore Dishwasher

One way to avoid a leaking Kenmore dishwasher is to adhere to the manufacturer's installation instructions, which tell you not to install the unit on carpeted floor. Help avoid leaks and install the dishwasher on a flat floor that is free from obstructions. If you do that, and notice that the Kenmore unit is leaking, troubleshoot to locate and correct the cause. The problem likely goes back to how you operate the dishwasher, or how it sits inside the installation location.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut back on the amount of dishwasher detergent you use, if the leak is caused by excessive sudsing.

    • 2

Pour one cup of vegetable oil into the bottom of an empty dishwasher tub, if you used hand dishwashing liquid in the dishwasher and excessive sudsing caused a leak. Add the proper amount of automatic dishwashing detergent to the dishwasher, and run the appliance through an entire normal wash cycle. The vegetable oil removes any remaining suds and hand dishwashing detergent buildup.

    • 3

Verify that the dishwasher door is not obstructed and if you are using the proper detergent. Open and close the dishwasher door, making sure that it doesn't rub against the cabinet edges beside it, or the counter top edge. Loosen the leg nuts on the unit's two front legs, using an adjustable wrench. Turn the front legs counter-clockwise, to lower the dishwasher so that it is at least 1/8 inch lower than the counter top edge.

    • 4

Open the dishwasher's front door and remove the lower rack. Position a level on the tank side wall rack guides, and verify that the unit is level, going from the front to back. Slide the unit out of the cabinet cut-out if it is not level.

    • 5

Loosen the leg nuts on all four of the dishwasher's legs, using an adjustable wrench, and turn the legs to adjust them higher or lower to bring the dishwasher level.

    • 6

Place the level atop the dishwasher's front door jamb, and verify that the unit sits level from left to right. Turn the unit's legs to raise or lower it until it is level.

    • 7

Tighten all four leg nuts on the unit, using the adjustable wrench. Reinstall the lower rack, and slide the unit back into place.
