How to Remove the Dish Rack From a GE Dishwasher

General Electric dishwashers have two racks that allow you to make the most of the capacity of the wash tub. The lower rack is not physically secured to the dishwasher, and lifts right out for removal. The top rack, however, is secured to the dishwasher using rack sliders. The dishwasher wheels are inserted into the sliders, and then a plastic end cap is installed on the end of the slider. To remove the upper rack for cleaning or repair purposes, you must first remove the plastic end caps.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the dishwasher door, and then pull the dish rack out as far as it will go.

    • 2

Insert a flat-head screwdriver behind the tab on one of the rack stops, which is the plastic piece on the end of each rack slide.

    • 3

Bend the tab back, toward the rear of the dishwasher. With the tab bent back, twist the rack stop inward, toward the center of the dishwasher, and remove it.

    • 4

Remove the other rack stop in the same manner as the initial rack stop was removed.

    • 5

Pull the rack straight out of the dishwasher.
