How to Install Brackets Under the Counter for a Whirlpool Dishwasher

Installing mounting brackets under the counter for your Whirlpool dishwasher keeps the unit from tipping forward when you open the dishwasher door. The mounting brackets are installed in the top of new units. Sometimes, though, you might find a unit is installed without the brackets. Installing brackets under the counter does require pulling the unit away from the cabinets temporarily. You must first install the brackets on the dishwasher before securing them to the counter.

Things You'll Need

  • Dishwasher mounting brackets
  • 1-inch wood screws
  • Phillips-head screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the circuit breaker to the Whirlpool dishwasher, if the appliance is currently installed under the counter. Open the dishwasher door far enough that you can grasp the inside of the cabinet with your hands. Pull the dishwasher six inches forward so you are able to see the top front of the dishwasher.

    • 2

Insert the front tab of the new bracket into the slot on the top of the dishwasher from the rear. There is a small ridge of raised metal on the top perimeter of the dishwasher. Depending upon the diswasher model, there will be a slot either in the center or on each end of the raised metal.

    • 3

Push the bracket toward the front of the dishwasher until the rear tab locks into place. Push the dishwasher back into the cabinet opening.

    • 4

Open the dishwasher door, and look for the hole on the front of the bracket. The bracket should be visible against the bottom of the counter.

    • 5

Insert a wood 1-inch long wood screw through the bracket hole, and tighten it into the counter with a Phillips-head screwdriver. If you have two brackets, secure both of them to the counter.

    • 6

Turn on the circuit breaker to power the Whirlpool dishwasher.
