Troubleshooting a General Electric Profile Dishwasher

While many people find cooking an enjoyable and rewarding hobby, many wouldn’t say the same about the cleanup afterward. A properly functioning dishwasher will help speed up the process. However, if you are experiencing trouble with your GE Profile dishwasher, it won’t take long for the dirty dishes to stack up. There are numerous dishwasher problems you can diagnose and repair yourself. Try to do the work yourself, instead of calling a repair shop, to save some time and money.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the power supply. Ensure the power cord is plugged into the wall socket. Check the fuse box or circuit box. If the dishwasher has a wall switch, ensure it is in the “On” position.

    • 2

Examine the load. Ensure the items are stacked properly and not covering each other. If the dishes are nestled together they will not get clean. Check to be sure the items are not blocking the spraying arms. Don’t let delicate items touch, as this can cause breakage.

    • 3

Inspect the racks. Adjust the racks to ensure that large items fit properly. If the items block the washing arms, some of the dishes may not get clean.

    • 4

Check the water supply. Ensure the faucets are turned on completely. If the taps are not on completely the dishwasher will take longer to heat the water and complete the cycle.

    • 5

Check the settings. Adjust the controls to the appropriate settings for the items you are washing. For example, use the “Pots and Pans” setting for heavily soiled items.

    • 6

Check the detergent and rinse aid. Fill the rinse aid and detergent compartments. Rinse aid helps the dishes dry without spots. Spots and film can also be caused by low washing temperature, hard water and low-quality detergent. Consider switching detergents if dishes aren’t getting clean.

    • 7

Examine the door. When you start or restart the cycle ensure the door is closed tightly before you press the “Start” button.

    • 8

Inspect the inlet hoses. Remove kinks and clogs from the hoses. Replace hoses if they are damaged. Hoses that are clogged restrict water flow while damaged hoses may leak.

    • 9

Check the drain hose. If the drain hose is blocked, it prevents the machine from draining.
