How to Remove the Filter Cover of a GE Dishwasher PDW7880J01SS

When cleaning out the sump filter on a GE Profile PDW7880J01SS dishwasher, you first must remove the filter cover from the unit. The filter cover is at the upper-right side of the lower spray arm hub. It looks similar to an upside-down basket on the floor of the dishwasher. Removing the filter cover on a GE dishwasher PDW7880J01SS might require some force if it has not been taken off before. This is because of the food debris buildup that sometimes creates a seal between the cover and the dishwasher.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the GE dishwasher door. Pull the bottom dish rack out of the dishwasher and place it on the counter out of your way.

    • 2

Rotate the bottom spray arm into a position so that it points to the front and back of the dishwasher. This moves the arm away from the filter cover so you have unobstructed access to the mounting bolts.

    • 3

Remove the two mounting bolts securing the filter cover to the bottom of the dishwasher with a 1/4-inch nut driver. There is a bolt on each end of the cover, with the heads of the bolts slightly hidden in a recessed hole.

Grab the sides of the filter cover with your fingers. Rock the filter cover toward the back of the dishwasher and back to the front of the dishwasher. This will break the seal between the bottom of the cover and the dishwasher. Lift the filter cover away from the dishwasher.
