How to Remove a Kenmore Dishwasher Float Valve

Removing the float valve in a dishwasher is necessary to test or replace the valve. All dishwashers, including Kenmore, have a float on the floor of the dishwasher that connects to a valve switch. The float rises with the water, and the valve switch cuts off power to the fill valve once the water rises to a certain level. When the dishwasher is not filling with water, chances are the float valve is faulty. It is necessary to access the bottom of the unit to remove a Kenmore dishwasher float valve.

Open the dishwasher door and lift the float off the housing. Depending on the model, the float is either in the right-front corner or left-rear corner on the dishwasher floor. The float most often lifts straight off, while some models require bending the float slightly to unsnap it from the housing. Close the dishwasher door.

Remove the screw securing the float switch under the dishwasher. The float switch is a square box directly under the float. Lower the float switch with the front facing you.

Unsnap the float switch cover from the switch for access to the two wires. Grab the wire ends with your fingers and pull them off the switch terminals. Take the float switch out of the dishwasher.
