How to Clean the Drain on a Miele Optima Series Dishwasher

The Optima series dishwasher drains are fitted with a triple filtration component to catch food particles and prevent broken dish pieces from going into the drain. Although the normal dishwashing cycle cleans the filter on a regular basis, it should be removed and cleaned by hand if debris or food particles accumulate in the trap. The filtration system is easily removed for periodic cleaning.

Locate the drain filter in the bottom of the dishwasher, turning the spray arm out of the way if necessary. Grasp the handle of the filter system and turn counterclockwise to unlock. Lift upward by the handle to remove the filter system.

Pick out any large debris from the filter by hand and dispose. Rinse the filter beneath warm running water to flush away small debris particles.

    • 3

Wet a nylon scrub brush with a small amount of dishwashing liquid. Gently scrub the outside and inside of the filter with the brush, then rinse thoroughly.

Locate the two filter flap clips, one on the outer edge of the filter and one in the center. Squeeze the clips toward each other and pull upward to open the filter flap. Rinse the interior of the filter under running water, then press the flap back down to re-engage.

Drop the filter back down into the drain with the handle held to the right. Turn the handle toward the front of the dishwasher to lock back in place.
