How to Replace the Front Door Seal on a Whirlpool Dishwasher

If you notice water leaking from a Whirlpool dishwasher while it's running, then you may have a damaged front door seal. The door seal, also known as the gasket, is a rubber part that's connected to the inside of the dishwasher. The gasket creates a tight seal to prevent water from leaking while the dishwasher is in use. If leakage occurs, this is usually from a tear or break in the door seal. To fix the problem, the door seal will need to be removed and replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Whirlpool dishwasher door to locate the front door seal, which is around the edge of the appliance.

    • 2

Use needle nose pliers to force open the door seal and lift the entire gasket from the dishwasher.

    • 3

Move your fingers over the door seal to check for holes, breaks or tears to determine if the seal needs to be replaced. If the seal requires replacement, affix the middle portion of the new door seal to the top of the dishwasher. Make sure to center the seal.

    • 4

Move the new door seal along both sides of the dishwasher and press it in, so the seal fits into place.

    • 5

Close the dishwasher door. Run a washing cycle to make sure the seal is properly inserted and there are no leaks.
