How to Replace the Hinge Cable in KitchenAid Dishwashers

When you open your KitchenAid dishwasher door, the cables connected to the door hinges will make sure the door isn't lowered too far. If you experience a problem trying to close or open the dishwasher door, or if one of the hinge cables is broken, you can manually replace the hinge cable. Once you've replaced the part, ensure that the tension on the cables is not too tight or too loose.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the dishwasher door all the way and then locate the two door cables attached to the hinges on each side of the bottom of the door.

    • 2

Remove the screw connected to each hinge cable on the door hinge using a screwdriver.

    • 3

Unhook the first hinge cable from the hinge using your hands, and then unhook and remove the second hinge cable.

    • 4

Loosen the nuts on the door hinges using a hex wrench. Connect a new hinge cable to the hinge on each side.

    • 5

Reinsert the screw into the door hinge so that the hinge cable becomes tightened. Connect the second hinge cable and reinsert the screw.

    • 6

Tighten the nuts on the door hinges to completely secure the hinge cables. Close and open the dishwasher door a few times to test the hinge cables.
