Miele recommends filling the dishwasher with powder, gel or tab detergents. Use the product directions for the amount of detergent to be used in the dishwasher, but don't use any other type of detergent than those specifically formulated for automatic dishwashers. Miele does not recommend the use of tab-style detergent for the “Express” wash cycle. In addition, the amount of detergent should be reduced by half when using a “China & Crystal” wash cycle.
The Miele Company manufactures its own line of dishwasher cleaning products, including detergent and rinse aid, and recommends the use of these products with the Miele dishwasher. These items are available for sale through Miele and in many home appliance stores.
Miele recommends the use of rinse aid detergent for every wash load to prevent spots from appearing on dishes and glasses. If you use tab-style detergent, rinse aid is unnecessary. Pour liquid rinse aid detergent into the dispenser until it's full and press the lid shut until the lid clicks. Wipe up any rinse aid detergent spills, as these can create oversudsing during the wash cycle and even cause leaks.
For Miele dishwashers with a salt container, Miele recommends the use of water softener salt, especially in areas with hard water. Check with your local water company to find out if you have hard water. If the water company recommends water softener salt, run the dishwasher with 2 quarts of water in the salt container before filling the container with salt to prep the container for future salt usage. Fill the salt container with up to 4 pounds of water softener dishwasher salt. Close the lid firmly and run a “Rinse & Hold” cycle without dishes in the dishwasher.
