Troubleshooting Leaking Water at the Base of a KitchenAid Dishwasher

The KitchenAid dishwasher leaks water from the base of the appliance when it is not level, or it is filled improperly with washing detergent or rinse aid. The machine moves naturally during use, and it can spill water on the floor if it isn't level. Also, too much detergent or a loose rinse aid lid can lead to spillage on the floor during the cleaning cycle, which can decrease the dishwasher's cleaning effectiveness and result in a water-damaged floor.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the dishwasher to the left or right if possible, or pull the dishwasher forward to level it on a flat surface.

    • 2

Place the level on top of the dishwasher to determine if the dishwasher is sitting on the floor evenly. If the floor is level but the dishwasher's legs are uneven, turn the legs clockwise or counterclockwise with a 10-inch adjustable wrench to level the dishwasher.

    • 3

Check the main wash compartment inside the dishwasher. Too much detergent results in the creation of excess suds during the wash cycle, and increases the likelihood of spillage.

    • 4

Open the dishwasher's door. Turn the knob near the "Rinse Aid" label clockwise to the "Lock" position. The rinse aid leaks from the detergent port when the cap on the port is not securely tightened.
