The GE Monogram ZBD3500ZZ0WW Dishwasher Will Not Drain

Normal Function

• Before you begin extensive investigation into the drainage problem, remember that a small amount of water will remain in the tub after wash cycles. This is normal and serves the purpose of keeping the water seal lubricated, as the dishwasher will not work well if the seal gets dried up. If the amount of water is small and the water is clean, no further action is necessary.

Kitchen Problems

• If there is a considerable amount of water in the dishwasher or the water is dirty, further troubleshooting is necessary. However, start in the kitchen when trying to fix the problem instead of the Monogram dishwasher itself. If you have an air gap installed on the kitchen sink, which looks like a little dome, lift off the dome top and clean out the hoses inside. Flush the hoses well with water and reconnect the hoses, then shut the lid. Then run the garbage disposal, if one is installed, to help clear the sink drain. Both the air gap and the kitchen sink drain are connected to the dishwasher and can create a dishwasher drainage problem if clogged.

Detergent Problems

• Look inside the dishwasher at the water that did not drain out of the tub. If the water seems excessively soapy, the problem might lie with the detergent. If something other than automatic dishwasher detergent is used or too much detergent is used, extra foam is created and often cannot drain out adequately. Let the dishwasher door stay open for awhile to help evaporate some of the suds, then add 1 gallon of cold water to the dishwasher tub. Shut the door and push “Start/Reset” two times to begin a drain cycle. Repeat these steps as necessary until all of the soap and water has drained out of the dishwasher.

Drain Hose

• If the GE dishwasher continues to drain poorly, turn off the dishwasher and disconnect the unit from power. Remove the front access panel and set down some towels before removing the drain hose from the dishwasher. Clean out the hose, checking carefully for obstructions, and then reconnect the hose. Before reinstalling the access panel, make sure the drain hose is not caught against the dishwasher or otherwise bent or trapped in such a way that waste water cannot flow through the hose.
