LG Dishwasher With a Clicking Noise

An LG dishwasher makes several operational sounds, such as hums, pops and water noises. Clicking may also be part of its normal operation, but it might also be caused by something outside of the regular function of the dishwasher's parts. In most cases, though, a clicking sound is something you can correct yourself without a call to a technician.
  1. Dishwasher Not Level

    • If the clicking noise occurs when the door is opened or closed, your dishwasher may not be level. This is easily remedied by adjusting the leveling feet at the base of the unit. In most models, you can use a screwdriver to turn the left foot counterclockwise and the right foot clockwise to lower each foot until it is level and the clicking stops. If your dishwasher is installed with mounting brackets inside a cabinet, check that it has been mounted level and isn’t tilted.

    Debris

    • At the bottom of your dishwasher tub is a pump that isn’t entirely closed off. Occasionally, a small object, such as a bone, can fall into this area and get stuck in the pump, causing a clicking sound each time it runs. The pump is usually mounted onto the motor in an LG dishwasher. Open the pump and remove any debris inside to stop the clicking sound and prevent clogs or odor from forming later. A small item, such as a lid, straw or a piece of cutlery, caught on the bottom of the dishwasher beneath the spray arms may also make a clicking noise.

    Improper Loading

    • Clicking noises are commonly caused by an improperly loaded dishwasher. If the dishes are loaded so that they touch the walls of the tub, interfere with the spray arms or are touching each other, they may click repeatedly during certain cycles. LG provides loading instructions in your dishwasher’s user manual to avoid this problem. Don’t overload the dishwasher and try to avoid placing items against the walls of the tub. Utensils should be placed in the proper compartment and not set in the trays loose.

    Normal Operational Clicks

    • Sometimes a clicking noise in your LG dishwasher is part of the dishwasher’s normal operation. Listen during your dishwasher’s regular cycle and make note of when the clicking occurs. The timer or the control panel may click as the cycles change. The detergent dispenser may also click as it opens, particularly if a dish is partially blocking it. If the clicking is only periodic and occurs about half a dozen times through the cycle, it is likely a solenoid opening as the cycle changes. If the clicking is erratic or constant, then the cause may not be a normal sound. If troubleshooting does not stop the noise, contact an LG-authorized technician to inspect your dishwasher.
