How to Manually Drain a KitchenAid Dishwasher

KitchenAid dishwashers, along with most dishwashers, drain into the garbage disposal connected to the sink drain. A clog or backup of food items in the disposal can prevent the water from fully draining. The water can be cleared and manually drained, if needed, to prevent standing water inside the dishwasher.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate and press the "Cancel/Drain" button on the control panel on the front of the dishwasher after the light next to "Clean" is lit. Listen for the sound of draining water. Some water may come up in the sink next to the dishwasher.

    • 2

Run the kitchen faucet water for a few seconds directly down the sink drain. If there is a garbage disposal, turn it on for up to 30 seconds with the water running.

    • 3

Slowly open the dishwasher and look inside to see if water is still inside the bottom of the dishwasher. If it is, run the water again in the sink and run the garbage disposal a few times, as a clog could be blocking proper drainage.

Run the dishwasher on a normal cycle.
