The Spray Arm Is Not Turning on My Frigidaire GLD4355RFS3

The Frigidaire GLD4355RFS3 dishwasher is an older model unit that has basic features and cycles, such as pots and pans and delicate wash cycles and an upper and lower spray arm. If either one of the spray arms does not seem to be turning, there may be poor wash performance as evidenced by soil left on dishes or a bad odor in the dishwasher. This can be caused by several things.
  1. Low Water Pressure

    • The spray arms in the Frigidaire dishwasher rotate due to the force of the water that exits the jets, propelling the spray arm in a circular motion. If the water pressure is too low, the spray arm may not turn as well, might turn more slowly or might not spin at all. The household water pressure should be between 20 and 120 psi for the dishwasher to work correctly. Avoid using other appliances such as a washing machine or shower when running the dishwasher to help improve the water pressure and contact a plumber if the overall household water pressure seems low. A booster can be added to the home water supply.

    Blocked Jets

    • When food spills or clogs the individual jets on the spray arms, the water cannot exit from the jet and move the spray arm. Examine both spray arms and use a toothpick to gently remove debris if the jets are clogged. Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe away any residue that might be blocking the jets.

    Dish Placement

    • Items that hang down from the upper rack or are very tall or bulky in the bottom rack can block the spray arm from turning. This can easily be solved by checking the top rack for items that might be falling below the rack and securing items on the rack. Items in the bottom rack should be placed face down along the rear and sides. Use your hand to spin the spray arm to ensure a full rotation is possible.

    Cleaning and Service

    • If you cannot determine the reason for the problem after verifying the water pressure, cleaning out the jets and making sure the dishwasher is loaded correctly, there may be a repair problem. Remove the bottom rack from the dishwasher and unscrew the bottom spray arm. Look inside the spray arm tower for debris that might be creating the issue and clean as needed. Inspect the spray arm and contact Frigidaire for assistance if the arm seems damaged or broken. Repeat the same process for the upper spray arm.
