How To Treat a Dishwasher Rack So It Won't Crack

A dishwasher's rack has a layer of vinyl, nylon or PVC covering the metal pieces. The outside coating is susceptible to cracking from repeated exposure to water pressure, chemical detergents, high heat and just from sliding the rack in and out. Nylon is less likely to crack, but both vinyl and PVC tend to chip and crack. If the cracks are not repaired, the metal can start to corrode. To prevent this issue as well as repair already damaged dishwasher racks, a chemical protectant is applied that coats the racks with a high-strength formula that resists chipping and cracking, even when exposed to high heat and water pressure.
