GE Dishwasher Touch Controls Are Not Responding

Many GE dishwashers have a control panel with key pads for cycle selections and cycle status indicators. The control panel should function normally on a regular basis; but if the control panel seems stuck or the key pads are not responding, some troubleshooting might be in order.
  1. Control Lock

    • The control lock feature prevents others from using the dishwasher or changing the current cycle. If this feature is engaged, the control key pads will be unresponsive when pressed. Push and hold the “Heated Dry” button for three seconds to release the control lock. The “Lock” light will turn off when the control lock is released.

    Door Ajar

    • GE dishwashers will not respond to the controls if the door is open nor will a cycle begin or proceed with the door open. The dishwasher may beep once a minute to let users know the door is open. Close the door firmly so that it latches then make your desired control pad selection.

    No Power

    • If there are no indicator lights illuminated on your GE dishwasher and none of the control pads will respond, there might not be power to the dishwasher. Reset or replace the circuit breaker or fuse as needed. Note that if there is a household-wide power outage, waiting for power to be restored is necessary before the dishwasher will function.

    Repair

    • If troubleshooting efforts to get the control key pads working again do not work, try a power reset by disconnecting power, waiting 30 seconds then reconnecting power. Try to make a cycle selection then press “Start.” If the dishwasher control pad still remains unresponsive, contact GE for service as the control board or selection plug may need to be replaced.
