How to Replace the Front Seal on a Kitchenaid Dishwasher

KitchenAid dishwashers are manufactured by Whirlpool, and designed for installation under the counter-tops of your kitchen. The dishwashers are available in white, black and stainless steal, and feature a variety of wash cycles, allowing you to wash anything from pots and pans to delicate items. Surrounding the wash tub is a rubber gasket, which is compressed by the dishwasher door when it is closed. The gasket ensures that water cannot escape from the wash tub during a wash cycle, which prevents the dishwasher from leaking. If the gasket is damaged, the seal may be comprised, allowing water to escape from the appliance. In this instance, you must remove the old gasket and install a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the dishwasher door, and then remove the old gasket. To remove the old gasket, grasp the end of the gasket, which is located at the bottom of either side of the wash tub, and then pull it firmly away from the dishwasher. Continue pulling until the gasket is completely removed.

    • 2

Soften the new gasket by submerging it in hot water for approximately five minutes.

    • 3

Locate the center of the new gasket, which is indicated on the gasket itself by a dot, which is often red.

    • 4

Align the center of the gasket in the gasket channel, below the door latch. Firmly press the gasket into the gasket channel.

    • 5

Continue installing the gasket by pressing it firmly into the gasket channel until the entire gasket is installed.

    • 6

Close and latch the dishwasher door. Allow the door to remain latched for several hours, which forces the gasket to conform to the shape of the gasket channel. For best results, allow the dishwasher door to remain latched overnight.
