My Frigidaire Model PLD2855RFC1 Has a Leaking Door

The Frigidaire PLD2855RFC1 is a 24-inch built-in dishwasher. It is prone to the same problem as other dishwashers and will occasionally leak through the sides of its door. The primary cause for this door leakage is a faulty seal, which you should be able to replace on your own in just a few simple steps.
  1. Door Gaskets

    • The door gasket is what seals the Frigidaire's door shut. It is a rubber strip that runs along the interior perimeter of the door and keeps it airtight. The gasket may degrade over time, however, leading to tears or shrinkage that will hinder its ability to form a tight seal. The gasket may also be loose and not adhere properly to the inner chamber. The water that splashes around in your dishwasher during cycles will then be able to leak around the edges of the door and ultimately onto your floor.

    Ordering a New Gasket

    • The first step to stop that leaky door is to order a new gasket from Frigidaire. You can typically call the company and order one -- just specify that it is for the PLD2855RFC1, or it may not fit. This model actually uses two gaskets: one that fits around the tub and one that sits at the bottom of the door. Soak the new gaskets in warm water for an hour or two to ensure that they expand and will fit snugly into your washer. Turn off the breakers to your kitchen so you don't shock yourself during installation.

    Removing the Seals

    • The gaskets in your Frigidaire sit snugly into grooves and do not require you to remove any bolts. Simply rip them out at an angle, and they should slip out, especially if they're already somewhat degraded. Clean the grooves with a mild detergent and sponge to remove any dirt or grease that may have built up and could prevent a firm seal. Remove the front of the door by removing two screws on each side of the door interior, then slide the door all the way down and slip out the bottom door gasket.

    Replacing the Gaskets

    • The new gaskets will fit into the grooves from the old ones. You may struggle a bit, so try pushing the gaskets into the grooves at an angle first. The gasket at the bottom of the door will slide in from the top the same way you took it out. Make sure the gaskets are snug, and then give the dishwasher a test run. The door shouldn't leak if you have installed the gaskets properly.
