Drainage Problems With a Frigidaire Dishwasher

If you open a Frigidaire dishwasher after it's turned off and water remains in the bottom of the unit, this may indicate drainage problems. Drainage problems can stem from a few different areas of the dishwasher, but most problems can be repaired without replacing components.
  1. Cycling

    • If you open a Frigidaire dishwasher before the entire washing and draining cycle is complete, water may still lay in the bottom of the unit. This is not a drainage issue if the dishwasher hasn't been given time to fully complete its cycle. Just because a Frigidaire dishwasher stops making noise doesn’t necessarily mean that it's completed draining. Wait until the lights on the dishwasher turn off or the “Clean” button lights up on the unit before opening the door after a wash cycle.

    Making the Dishwasher Drain

    • If you open the door too early on a Frigidaire dishwasher and water is still present on the unit's floor, you can force the dishwasher to continue draining. Close the dishwasher's door and listen for the click. When the door is closed and latched, the Frigidaire dishwasher should continue draining the rest of the water from the bottom of the unit.

    Drain

    • Pull out the bottom rack of the dishwasher and look at the drain in the bottom of the unit to see if any food debris or hair has collected over the drain. If the drain appears clogged, remove the debris. Also check the hose that leads out of the drain to make sure that it hasn't come loose from the unit or become bent.

    Garbage Disposal

    • If you have a dishwasher and a garbage disposal, the dishwasher water and debris may drain though the disposal before going down into the rest of the plumbing. If the garbage disposal is backed up or clogged, the dishwasher may fail to drain properly. Turn cold water on in the sink and run the garbage disposal to remove any food in the disposal chamber. In some instances, unclogging the disposal leads the dishwasher to continue draining.
