The Air Dry option on the Kenmore dishwasher is meant to dry the dishes without heat and can be used for delicate wash items or plastic pieces that might melt or be damaged by high temperatures. The air dry cycle blows air on the dishes but does not heat them, which may still leave some items damp or wet when the cycle is done. If this is not a desirable result, run the wash cycles with regular dry to provide additional heat during drying.
Kenmore recommends the use of rinse aid detergent in the dishwasher to help rinse dishes thoroughly and sheet water off items for better drying. Make sure the rinse aid detergent dispenser is filled prior to running the dishwasher for best results.
The manner in which the dishwasher is loaded can affect the way the dishes dry. If you nest or stack items together, the air flow may not reach items completely and leave some dishes damp. In addition, overloading the dishwasher can slow down and may inhibit proper drying. Leave some space in-between each dish and do not stack, nest or place items on top of other items.
Despite the use of rinse aid detergent, regular heated dry cycles and proper loading of the dishwasher, some plastic items will remain damp after the wash cycle is done. Some plastic items simply retain more moisture than other items and these items might need to be towel dried to remove any remaining water.
The heating element, thermostat or drying fan may have broken or be damaged if all other efforts to get the dishwasher drying do not work. Contact Kenmore for assistance if the dishwasher does not dry after trying different cycles, refilling the rinse aid dispenser and loading the unit properly.
