One of the most likely reasons the KitchenAid dishwasher has no lights and will not start is that power has been lost. Try to reset or replace your home's circuit breaker or fuse that supplies power to the dishwasher and then open and close the dishwasher door and make a cycle selection and push “Start.” If the control panel does not illuminate after the power reset and the dishwasher will not start, look to see if power has been lost to other appliances throughout the home, which may indicate a household power outage. Wait for power to return and then program and start the dishwasher.
If the KitchenAid dishwasher has power but the lights are not illuminated on the control panel and the cycle will not start, something as basic as the door might be the problem. Open and shut the dishwasher door firmly so that the door clicks into place. Then press the desired wash cycle and any modifiers and press “Start” to begin.
Look to see if the “Child Lock” keypad is the only keypad illuminated on the control panel. If so, then the child lock has been set to prevent unauthorized children or other users from turning on the dishwasher. Push “Energy Saver Dry” and hold for five seconds to release the child lock and then operate the dishwasher normally.
The dishwasher is programmed to automatically shut off if a motor overload occurs in order to prevent potential damage to the dishwasher. The dishwasher will automatically power back up and reset in approximately five to 10 minutes. Check the water supply and turn the water on if the motor overloads and look inside the bottom of the dishwasher for items that may have fallen and are causing an overheating problem. If the dishwasher shuts back off again or never starts back up, contact KitchenAid for service (see Resources).
